At present there are six taxi associations in

All Austin taxi is operated by independent contractor drivers who have

fare information, it is to be noted that the city regulates the rate.
These rates apply to all taxi cab companies and also all drivers.
Presently the current meter rate as of February 2005 is $2.00 for the
first 1/4 mile plus 25¢ for each additional 1/8 mile ($2/mile). While
the rate for waiting time is $22.50 per hour. Also by Austin city
ordinance, trips which originate at the airport are subject to a $1
surcharge. Unlike some of the cities in America, there is no additional
charge for extra passengers. As many as four passengers may ride for the
